Renewable energy is a clean, non-depleting source of energy. Iraq relies upon oil as the main source of energy to cover its requirements. Increasing the demands on energy in near future could cause problem. This book presents details about alternative recourses that are available in Iraq. It's also shed the light precisely on the most prospective energy sources which can be used.
This book is intended for the researchers in the renewable energy section with a focus on Iraq. This book can provide a recent platform reference with modern data and statistical analysis for the energy that exists in different Iraqi regions.
1. Renewable energy resources Overview
An overview of Iraqi climate conditions. An Introduction to general resources of alternative energy sources available in Iraq.
2. Solar Energy
An introduction to solar energy will be presented, including the basic concept of solar radiation, solar angles, etc. A survey of direct radiation falls in different region in Iraq will emphasis. Applications such as; Photovoltaic system (PV) and thermal solar systems. The challenges and the prospective application could be achieved in this sector.
3. Wind Energy
This chapter focuses on wind energy, study Iraqi regions with high wind that exist all year. Getting statistical data with the help of Iraqi meteorological for the last ten years. The comparison study of the data and the nominated zones estimates the amount of electric energy generated from wind turbines in these regions.
4. Biomass Energy
Iraqi has numerous resources of biomass that have not been investigated with all of its statistical data. Bio-ethanol; methanol, among others, will be included in this chapter.
5. Hydro Energy
Hydroelectric energy is the power of water in motion. The main region of this source of energy available near dams. What is exists, and what is the amount of energy that resulted from this form of energy.
6. Sustainable lighting design: A feasibility study for operational effectiveness
This chapter compares three lighting design options; an LED upgrade, controls upgrade (including daylight harvesting and occupancy sensors with fluorescent luminaires) and smart lighting to determine which option offers the greatest impact for potential investment within office and classroom environments in Iraq.
7. Sustainable Approach to Energy Solutions
Three options identified as Option 1 (PV), Option 2 (BES) and Options 3 (APFC) and extensive research conducted through literature review and options study analysis to determine the best fit option. The research and the analysis performed on the essential competencies Finance, FM, PM and Sustainability. Simple Pay Back method used to determine the most suitable option in terms of finance and the qualitative method for FM and PM by Risks scoring and weighing. In terms of sustainability, the comparison made on the Fuel Saving, GHG Saving and embodied carbon to find the best option.
8. Clean, Green and Intelligent of the Storage Energy Technologies
This chapter aims to provide a critically evaluated analysis of methods for storing electrical energy either directly or indirectly. Renewable energy sources are known by their variations in time or available power related to meteorology conditions. This issue is a new motivation for the development and realization of new energy storage systems. An increase in demand and the need to produce environmentally friendly energy have meant that energy storage technologies are continually improving to mitigate climate change.
Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit on or before December 10, 2021. Authors will be notified by January 30, 2022, about the status of their submissions. All submitted chapters will be reviewed on a double-blind review basis.
Contributors may also be requested to serve as reviewers for this project.
